'Marijuana deal gone bad triggers SAU parking lot homicide, affidavit surmises'
On August 11, 2020, a senseless crime was committed in the Renyolds parking lot on SAU campus. In the early morning hours, a drug deal had been arranged over Snapchat with students Joshua Keshun Smith, Lucas Sharp, and Alex Copeland in dealing with SAU students Odies “Odie” Wilson IV, 21, of North Little Rock, Le’Kamerian “Kam” Tolbert, 21, of Little Rock and Shivonn “Shakey” Robinson, 20, of Vacherie, LA, and non-student Quincy “Q” Isaiah Lewis, 20, of Little Rock.
The "dealers" were in communication with the unknown buyer over Snapchat. while in the parking lot, Smith received a Snapchat message from the buyer saying, ‘I’m over here, see my waving?’ so Smith, Sharp, and Copeland drove to the north end of the parking lot to meet up.
The buyer entered the vehicle to inspect the drugs and then told Smith “I didn’t bring my money because I was afraid you were going to rip me off, I just have to go get it.”
At this point the buyer got out of the car and another individual ran up to the driver’s window and started shooting, striking Smith and front seat passenger Sharp.
Smith threw the vehicle into reverse and struck a light pole. At this point, Copeland and wounded Sharp, exited the vehicle and ran across the parking lot. When Copeland realized the severity of the incident and that Smith may have been killed at this point he called friends to tell them what had just happened.
there were two witnesses to the crime who eventually fled the scene and called law enforcement.
Smith's death is believed to be the first on-campus homicide in SAU's history.
